Singer/Actress and wife of the legendary Jay-z, Beyonce Knowles, have been gracing the news for a while now and it’s not because of her performance in Cadillac Records where she portrayed Rock and Roll legend Etta James. Apparently, Etta didn’t like Beyonce’s performance when she sang for the presidential couple at the Inaugural Ball for President Obama and from what she said; it seems she doesn’t like the new US president as well.
Quoted from Miss James herself were these following words at her latest concert, “You guys know your president right? You know the one with the big ears. Yeah, wait a minute, he ain’t my president, he might be yours.
I tell you that woman he had singing for him, singing my song, she gonna get her ass whipped. The great Beyonce! Now like I said, she ain’t mine. I can’t stand Beyonce! She had no business up there singing. Singing on a big ole, big ole president day and going be singing my song that I’ve been singing forever.”
It seems that Etta James felt left out because she wasn’t the one invited to sing for the First Couple especially since it was her song and she’s been singing it for years and it’s what she’s popularly known for. At an interview for the Daily News, she explained that she meant no harm when she said those words and that she did it only for fun. During her latest concert where she blurted out those words, she said her audience was laughing so hard that she just couldn’t help but continue with her “jokes”. She also said that the newly elected president might never like her because of what she said.
We may never know if she was sincere or not, so maybe the only way to settle this is through a good ol’ singing showdown between B and Miss James. Now that’s something a lot of people would definitely watch out for.
