Update on Chris Brown and Rihanna

Category: Artists — cinnamon fridays @ 10:28 pm

After the news about Chris Brown beating Rihanna spreads like wild fire, and many Rihanna fans are in outrage with what Chris Brown did to the beautiful and generous singer, Chris Brown had finally made a statement. It’s not exactly the kind of statement that would make Rihanna forgive her “former” lover. He didn’t sound like he was remorseful with what he did to her. Yes, he apologized and sad about what had transpired and is seeking for some counseling, but he did not admit anything.

Rihanna is now at home in Barbados while recovering from her injuries that severely bruised her face. She cancelled her sold out concert and cancelled appearances and even her birthday celebration after what had transpired. Chris Brown, on the other hand, had issued a public apology but it didn’t stop his angry fans from dissing him.

Prince to release 3 new albums in 2009

Category: Artists — cinnamon fridays @ 6:28 pm

The artist formerly known as Prince had announced that he will be releasing 3 new albums for 2009 where 2 of which are solo albums while the other one is an album joined by Bria Valente. Prince even said that none of these 3 albums will be with a record label. Now, I don’t know if that will hurt the sales or not. Instead, Prince would be distributing these albums through a major US retailer and will become available through his interactive website or how he’d call it as “highly interactive website” with emphasis on “highly”.

The first album would be entitled “MPLSOUND” which was recorded in his Paisley Park Studios. It is an electro-sounding album with experimental Pop songs as well as rap. The second album he entitled as “Lotus Flower” for whatever satisfaction the title might serve him.

Beyonce’s Outstanding Performance in NAACP Image Awards 2009

Category: News — rnb music @ 4:41 am

After all the controversy and the ridicule experienced by Beyonce’ this year, she preferred to stand up and perform her best rather than hiding her face after receiving sour words from Etta James and even Aretha Franklin. Those are big singers with a legendary mark in the music industry and they said something negative about Beyonce’ Knowles. Well, instead of proving to them that she’s no good to be standing side by side with them, she proved that indeed she could stand up and deliver just like any professional and dedicated singers would do.

At the NAACP Image Awards held last February 12, 2009 in Los Angeles California, Beyonce performed in front of the crowd with the song entitled “Halo” She wore a beautiful white dress and her performance there is probably her best performance ever. The song was delivered with the right emotions that you can’t help but float with the song. That is Beyonce’s magical power. She could entice you into singing along with her or bombard you with what the song is trying to relay to the listeners.

Jonetta Patton – JPat Records

Category: News — rnb music @ 2:38 pm

Usher is one of the new RnB artists that made their names known. He won several Grammy awards already and there’s no one else he could thank but his mother Jonetta Patton. First of all, his mom recognized his talent when he was singing at a choir. With this, she decided to give up her job so she could support her son to pursue a singing career. Lo and behold, Usher’s great talent and his mom’s sacrifices paid off.

Jonetta Patton was his manager back when he was reaping tremendous popularity with his songs such as “Yeah” back in 2004. They parted ways professionally but Usher rehired his mother as his manager again since his record sales didn’t do as well when he was managed by Benny Medina. Now, Jonetta Patton is not just a manager but she founded her own independent record label called JPat Records. After being a manager and having 2 successful songs, Usher and J Lack who is an award winning producer, and now she has her own record label! Talk about having a cool mom? Usher has that!

Whitney Houston’s comeback

Category: Artists — cinnamon fridays @ 7:54 pm

Avid fans of Whitney Houston can finally rejoice. The supreme diva performed at the pre-Grammy party last February 7 2009 and wowed the crowd with her outstanding performance. She looked radiant and dazzling as she made her way onto the stage to perform for her mentor Clive Davis at a party honoring him. She sang some of her most famous songs such as “I Will Always Love You”, the soundtrack of her movie The Bodyguard, and although she rendered it a little differently (she didn’t belt out the high notes like she did before) the crowd still applauded her for a wonderful presentation.

Aretha Franklin calls Beyonce’s Grammy intro a “cheap shot”

Category: News — rnb music @ 10:26 am

Beyonce is once again thrown into controversy and this time it’s because of Aretha Franklin. At the Grammy’s last Sunday, Aretha criticized the intro Beyonce made for Tina Turner where the latter called Turner “The Queen” and later called Tina her ultimate icon at the Grammy’s after party.

“There is one legend who has the essence of all of those things: the glamour, the soul, the passion, the strength, the talent. Ladies and gentlemen, stand on your feet and give it up for the queen.” This was Beyonce’s opening remark for Tina Turner’s performance which Aretha Franklin didn’t like very well.

Ne-Yo to collaborate with Michael Jackson

Category: Artists — cinnamon fridays @ 8:05 pm

Ne-Yo is a singer songwriter who made several hits for artists such as Rihanna, Beyonce and even Britney Spears. To all Ne-Yo followers, for sure now you know who this talented singer-songwriter’s idol is. It’s no other than the pop icon Michael Jackson. Ne-Yo wrote and sang the song “Nobody” which Michael Jackson complimented and said it’s a song that made him feel complimented too. Nobody is one of Ne-Yo’s tribute songs for his ultimate idol.

Since last year, Ne-Yo confirmed that he is doing collaboration with Michael Jackson. Well, not only with Michael but with Janet Jackson as well. Both pop icon siblings are in much need of a comeback and they want the expertise of Ne-Yo to help them get the “oomph” they need to be back in the music limelight.

Ne-Yo is composing songs for his idol and although Michael is a bit choosy, Ne-Yo doesn’t mind because he knows Michael should be choosy because after all, it’s going to be his comeback album.

Eric Benet has his way with words that even the most revolting scenes can be turned into lovely melodies that you can sing in exquisite restaurants without having all customers walk out in pure disgust. Yup, that’s Eric Benet. His talent is amazing that after all these years he still makes really beautiful songs although he is an underrated singer.

At age 42, Eric Benet has experienced a lot in his life. He lost his dad, lost his ex-girlfriend who is also the mother of his daughter. Eric also had a divorce with ex-wife Hollywood superstar Halle Berry because of his infidelity. He is a sex-addict and the song “The Hunger” will prove just that. The song is really talking about lovemaking but when you listen to it, it sounds really good but when you read the listen then, oh boy, you’d feel the heat!

Ruben Studdard won American Idol Season 2 and released an album in 2003 entitled Soulful. It was his first studio album and it was under the J Records. It reached 1.7 million in sales and awarded platinum. That album reached #1 in the U.S. Billboard charts. Following that album was his second album entitled “I need an Angel” which was released a year later. Its sales were not as great as the first album where it only got 450,000 of sales. It got a Gold certificate which is not as satisfying as the Platinum he received from the first album. The second album I need an angel reached the #20 in the U.S. Billboard Charts.

After 2 years, Ruben released another album and this one reached #8 in the U.S. Billboard charts although it only got 413,000 of record sales. The third album is entitled The Return since he skipped a year of recording.
