Record Label Profile – Dome Records

Dome RecordsThis British record label was started in 1992 specialising in Soul and R&B. The founder, Peter Robinson, had extensive experience in the music industry working for RCA, Chrysalis and CBS labels before he launched Dome Records as an offshoot of EMI Records. He named the label after the prominent music, theatre and performing arts venue, the Brighton Dome in his home town of Brighton and Hove in Sussex.

Dome Records became completely independent in 1995 when it broke free from EMI.

Artists on the label include British singer/songwriter Beverley Knight, Soul/R&B duo Hil St Soul, acid jazz band Incognito, singer/songwriter/musician/producer Don-E and American-Canadian singer/songwriter Brenda Russell amongst others. The label also released Lulu’s Independence album in 1993.

Recent releases include compilation album Soul Lounge II – 3 Hours of Glorious Soulful Listening, featuring songs by Incognito, Citrus Sun, Imaani and Reel People amongst others as well as Jarrod Lawson’s self-titled debut album described by Echoes Magazine’s Chris Wells as “truly astounding”.
