Beyonce is once again thrown into controversy and this time it’s because of Aretha Franklin. At the Grammy’s last Sunday, Aretha criticized the intro Beyonce made for Tina Turner where the latter called Turner “The Queen” and later called Tina her ultimate icon at the Grammy’s after party.
“There is one legend who has the essence of all of those things: the glamour, the soul, the passion, the strength, the talent. Ladies and gentlemen, stand on your feet and give it up for the queen.” This was Beyonce’s opening remark for Tina Turner’s performance which Aretha Franklin didn’t like very well.
Clearly offended because of B’s intro, the Queen of Soul said, “I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce. However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy.” Then she ended her statement by saying, “In addition to that, I thank the Grammys and the voting academy for my 20th Grammy and love to Beyoncé anyway.”
For Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich, what Beyonce said was simply an innocent remark and the singer meant no harm to Aretha Franklin especially since the Queen of Soul is a big part of the music industry, hence the award she received from the Recording Academy.
People seem to be more and more sensitive nowadays and controversies such as this boom into a big issue that leaves people gossiping here and there. Each artist has their own brand of talent and different people have various opinions and idols and I guess all we can do is respect each other’s views and not let it ruin our day.
